Santiago 1890, Chile está regido por un gobierno liberal donde la aristocracia conservadora y la Iglesia Católica siente por primera vez que está lejos del poder. En este periodo entre guerras se habla de dos Chile, una élite ilustrada que vive los privilegios del auge económico y otro que día a día trabaja para poder subsistir.
Es en este escenario una joven llamada Carmen Marín (que vive en el convento de Las Hermanas de la Caridad) empieza a tener convulsiones. La hermana superiora Sor Juana teme que esté poseída por lo que pide ayuda al arzobispo, éste a su vez llama al padre Raimundo Zisternas para que la observe y resuelva si es esta la causa de su mal, si es así poder mandar el informe al Vaticano para poder exorcizarla.
Por su parte el gobierno llama a Gabriel Varas un joven doctor que viene llegando de Francia para que examine a Carmen, sus conocimientos lo llevan a diagnosticarle histeria convulsiva. Mientras el sacerdote intenta proteger a Carmen celosamente, el doctor Gabriel Varas se acerca a ella con interés científico.
Médico y Sacerdote, Ciencia y Religión, se enfrentan. Las revelaciones de Carmen, que parece conocer los pecados de juventud del doctor Gabriel Varas y el pasado del padre Raimundo Zisternas, comienzan a producir un quiebre en ambos hombres. Cuando no está poseída, Carmen se aferra al doctor Gabriel Varas como su protector y le pide que la sane, que la salve. El médico se siente cada vez más atraído por su paciente.
Pero Carmen ¿está mintiendo? ¿es parte de un plan? ¿quiere dinero? ¿está loca?
En una sociedad dividida, Gabriel y Raimundo, pese a ser de bandos opuestos, descubrirán que son los únicos que realmente pueden acompañarse en su lucha contra el demonio.

Santiago 1890, Chile is governed by a liberal government where the conservative aristocracy and the Catholic Church feel for the first time that it is far from power. In this period between wars there is talk of two Chile, an enlightened elite that lives the privileges of the economic boom and another that day by day works to survive.
It is on this stage that a young woman named Carmen Marín (who lives in the convent of Las Hermanas de la Caridad) begins to have seizures. Sister Superior Sor Juana fears that she is possessed, so she asks the archbishop for help, who in turn calls Father Raimundo Zisternas to observe her and resolve whether this is the cause of her problem, if so, so he could send the report to the Vatican to be able to perform an exorcism.
For its part, the government calls Gabriel Varas a young doctor who has been arriving from France to examine Carmen, her knowledge leads her to diagnose seizure hysteria. The revelations of Carmen, who seems to know the youthful sins of Dr. Gabriel Varas and the past of Father Raimundo Zisternas, begin to produce a break in both men. When not possessed, Carmen clings to Dr. Gabriel Varas as her protector and asks him to heal her, to save her.
The doctor is increasingly attracted to her patient. But is Carmen lying? Is it part of a plan? wants money? she's crazy? In a divided society, Gabriel and Raimundo, despite being on opposite sides, will discover that they are the only ones who can truly accompany each other in their fight against the devil.
